First Day of Pre-Kindergarten!

I've SO enjoyed spending extra quality time with my daughter, Hailey this summer!....Today was her first day of school!!!!

This year she is in the Pre-Kindergarten class and will be attending school five days a week for the first time.  She of course is ready for this, but her mommy feels it is bittersweet.

We read Oh The Places You'll Go By Dr. Seuss to her last night, and she just loved it.  She really is off to do amazing things.  I am such a proud mother, and so blessed to have this little angel in my life!

Excitement is about to spill out of her ears!!!!

She reminds me every day how amazing life is and how lucky our family is.  We've gone through some amazing experiences together this year and we are looking forward to seeing what the new school year will bring for our Joyful Little Princess!

Best wishes to all of the children returning to school today, about to return to school, or who have already returned to school.  And a special thank you to the teachers and staff that take such wonderful care of our little ones while they are in their care!

Happy Learning!

August Featured Shop - Maiden Jane

I am thrilled to announce this month's featured shop to you!

Let me introduce you to Maiden Jane, the August Featured Shop of the Month!

This shop is owned by Jane, and she specializes in custom sewing, including amazing memory quilts and pillows.  Her shop has been open since February of 2009.  Jane and I stumbled along one another on Twitter a while back and  she is one of my favorite "Sweet Tweets".

In addition to her custom quilts and pillows she offers spacious beach bags, and these lovely beach shell bags!  We were lucky enough to win one in a giveaway and love ours, so fun for collecting treasures!

Let's get to know Jane and her lovely shop some more...

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to open your handmade shop?

Maiden Jane began as an outlet for my love of creating. As long as I can remember, I loved working with my hands.  As a student, I was guided to pursue chemical engineering.  I thought design engineering would mesh with my desire to create.  After seven years working for a large company, I retired to raise four kids.  During that time I enjoyed sewing and knitting as hobbies.  Four years ago, I turned my sewing hobby into a business and am having the time of my life on this new journey of building a sewing business.

What is your favorite item from your shop, and why is it "the one"?

It is really hard for me to select a favorite item from my shop. I'm a custom sewing studio, so I make a lot of unique variations of my items for customers.  Lately, I have really enjoyed upcycling t-shirts and sweatshirts into unique totes.  The fun part about making them is that each one is unique.  I could never make the same thing over and over again.  I would get bored.

Can you tell us more about your custom orders?

Almost all of my items can be custom made.  Even my oversized beach totes, which are very popular.  Customers ask me all of the time for different fabrics and I work with them to find the one that they like.

How do you get inspired for your projects?

Inspiration usually comes from my family life.  I am a practical person who values quality.  My products are born out of my needs or my customer's needs.

What new items do you hope to add to your shop in the near future?

My T Shirt Quilt Blankets are also very popular.  I have been creating several new sizes that I am in the process of adding to my shop.  I also work with upcycled coffee sacks occasionally.  I hope to add wine totes made out of coffee sacks.

What are your goals for your shop in 2013?

My shop goals for 2013 include improvement in time management, which is a huge challenge when working mainly with custom orders. I also want to work on basic shop maintenance, like website improvements, photo improvements, etc.  I plan to continue creating tutorials because it is a fun outlet for me.  I am collaborating with other artisans on some new products, which is a great way to broaden your exposure and enhance your creativity.

We want to give Jane a special thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and for sharing her shop with us this month! Best of luck to you, your family, and your shop now and in the future!

Please take the time to visit Maiden Jane on Etsy, and Facebook.

And for those that love DIY projects, and a good "blog read".  You must visit her blog and tutorial page.  She is very inspiring, in fact, because of her I purchased all of the material to make my first quilt...that I have yet to start on but plan to soon!  ;)
