Kids Clothes Week Summer 2013 So Tweet Swing Top and Bubble Skirt

It's summer time and its flying by! I am really enjoying spending extra time with my daughter and soaking up every minute of it, so my blogging schedule has been erratic. It will get back to normal once school starts in about three weeks.

I did have a chance to take part in the Kids Clothes Week Summer edition this past week and love how my project turned out!

Kids Clothes Week is a seasonal sewing challenge where you spend at least an hour a day sewing for the kiddos, for an entire week. I spent at least an hour a day working on the project from washing the fabric to completion, sometimes longer.

Of course with the summer being so busy my original plan to end up with at least two finished outfits went a stray but I am glad we ended up with an adorable outfit in the end!

I used two fabrics from the Happier collection from Riley Blake Designs, by Deena Rutter.

I have had this fabric in my hoard stash for at least a year or longer, so it's probably pretty hard to find these days. It was so cute I wanted to hold into it until I found the perfect project, and now I wish I had more of it!

For the swing top I used the pattern that I purchased as a special offer from Fairytale Frocks and Lollipops also well over a year ago. I adore the little flower pocket!

This top was fun to make and it put my bias making skills to use.  I do have to go back and alter the side seams some since the 3/4 size was a bit big even for my four year old, but that will be an easy fix!

For the bottom I used the Elegance and Elephants Bubble Pocket Shorts pattern and altered it to make it a Bubble Skirt.

My daughter is going through a no shorts phase, so although I adore the pattern as shorts she is not a fan. This pattern is great and I plan on purchasing more of her patterns.

And there you have it, my finished Kids Clothes Week project....with a few still in the works.

This project reminded me how important it is to sew something for yourself and your kiddos now and then even when you are wrapped up in other things, it's my therapy!

Summer of No Pants Sewing Challenge Results and Exciting New Challenge, Kids Clothes Week!

The results of The Summer of No Pants Sewing Challenge are in and....

I didn't win any of the prizes BUT I feel like a winner because I accomplished something that I always wanted to do but never had the courage to try, sewing for myself.

You can read more about the winners and the honorable mentions here at the Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky! blog

I want to thank all of you for support and votes, I appreciated you coming on the journey with me!

I'm looking forward to The Summer of No Pants 2014 Challenge, and in the mean time will be learning a lot so I can hopefully come out with a prize of some sort!

Next on my list of "sewing challenges" is "Kids Clothes Week, The Summer Challenge", also known as "KCW".

This challenge starts next week Monday, and in the end Hailey should have some lovely new summer clothes!  The challenge is to spend at least an hour of every day working on sewing children's clothes for seven days.

I'm excited to join in the fun because the last season was the first I had learned of KCW and I missed out on joining in on the fun.

Tune in next week to see what I'll be working on for my KCW challenge!

And, if you sew there is still time to sign up and join in the fun!

July Featured Shop ~ Lisa's Little Joys

I am so excited to share this month's Featured Shop with you!

Let me introduce you to Lisa's Little Joys, the July Featured Shop of the Month!

This shop is owned by Lisa and she specializes in handmade home decor items, gift items, and cards.  Her shop has been open for nearly a year, and will celebrate a one year anniversary in September.

She is graciously offering a 20% discount to her shop for the remainder of the month of July!  To receive your discount use coupon code Joyful20 when you checkout.

In addition to the items listed for sale in her shop you can request a custom order!

I've ordered a custom set of wood blocks for my mother for Mother's Day and she loved them.  Lisa will go above and beyond to make sure that your custom order turns out exactly as you wish. ....which reminds me I need to order another set of decorated wood blocks for a dear friend!

One of her more recent additions to her shop are custom Hair Bow Organizers.  She will work with you to find the perfect fabric and ribbon for your organizer.

Now, let's get to know Lisa and Lisa's Little Joys a little bit more!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to open your handmade shop?

I am a stay at home mom to 2 boys, 15  and 4, and a soon to be little girl in August.  I have been married 6 years this month to the most supportive wonderful man.  Before my youngest son I worked in the paper/printing industry where I met my hubby.  I love spending time with my family, along with cooking and crafting.

I have always loved to craft and it is a stress reliever for me.  I opened my shop because I loved creating things and wanted to share them with others.

What is your favorite item from your shop, and why is it "the one"?

Currently my favorite items are the custom made name blocks because they are inspired by my kids.

My favorite sold out item was my Halloween Creatures because they jump started my shop and are so darn cute!

What is the best way to request a custom order?

Either through private message on Facebook or through a conversation on Etsy.

How do you get inspired for your projects?

I get inspired by items I see in stores and magazines and of course, Pinterest.

What new items do you hope to add to your shop in the near future?

More all year round home decor items.

What are your goals for your shop in 2013?

Expanding my all year round home decor, and increasing custom orders.  Overall, just making people smile with my goodies!!!!

Please take the time to visit Lisa's Little Joys on Etsy and Facebook.  She is known to have some great giveaways for her Facebook Fans!

And a special thank you to Lisa for taking the time to answer our questions and share her shop with us this month!  Best of luck to you and your shop in 2013 and the future!

Featured Shop of the Month Series

As an owner of a handmade shop I love supporting other great handmade shops.  Since I've gone back to blogging I wanted to make sure that I share other great handmade shops with my readers, so I've come up with the "Featured Shop of the Month" series.

Every month I will share a great handmade shop with you all.  You will learn about the shop and shop owner, see a few of the items from the shop, and if the shop owner would like, a special offer or giveaway will be available.

I'll be sharing the "July Featured Shop of the Month" with you all tomorrow!

If you have a handmade shop and would like a chance to have your shop be the "Featured Shop of the Month" you can submit your information via this form, we will always be looking for new shops to feature!
